LEARNING OUTCOME

The programme is designed to produce competent graduates that are able to develop, integrate, practice and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the diverse disciplines within human development. Family studies, textiles science and interior design. Such skills and competence would foster individual, families and communities demand geared to making decisions that have impact on welfare, sustained relationship. Resource management and economic improvement.


Students who graduate from this programm should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  1. The scientific and practical principles of family and consumer sciences based on a foundation of management of family resources.
  2.  The applied aspects of human development and family studies textiles and design, consumer science and human nutrition in the context of community development and health, textiles and interior, catering and institutional feeding.
  3. The basic and underlying factors that shape the family and consumer development studies, and their various components.
  4.  The relevance of family and consumer sciences to the diverse range of human needs and expectations at the local, national and international levels that stimulates informed independence to explore  various opportunities in the consumer industry e.g catering, textile and fashion, family counselling.

This is where knowledge and skills are translated into products and services with sense of consumer’s behaviour, tastes and preferences.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Two principal passes (4 points) in the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Home Economics, Agriculture, Nutrition, Advanced Mathematics, Physics or Geography. OR Diploma in Human Nutrition, Home Economics, Food Science, Nursing, Community Development, Biomedical, Laboratory Technology or Clinical Medicine, with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, an applicant must have a minimum of “D” grade in Biology two science subjects at O-Level.

FEES

Tshs 1,263,000 per year.
